Edengrove Seniab Ruins Farm

Good Morning Friends! We are closing in on the end now. I have this farm and one for tomorrow… and then we are done. I committed to this process not realizing how many there would be and I have to admit I have gotten a bit tired of this “bit” as I am sure you all have been as well. The end is nigh however so we are going to push through. This is another good farm not too terribly far from the Taedas farm we’ve already talked about, this time focused around another shaman-type Dryad named Cael. This one also has a Void Gauntlet and a Life Staff and I think the jury is out on which are the best set for which purposes. I largely came here because it was a relatively easy bow to farm, and also had another trade skill set item.

To get to this farm we are best off using the spirit shrine that sits smack in the middle of the zone, but it is also a fairly reasonable run from Valor Hold. I would however suggest making a detour and picking up that mid-shrine if you don’t have it. This is a much higher-level farm than most of the others we have been doing, and everything surrounding Seniab is level 60, so adjust accordingly. I would suggest plopping down a tent just outside the area because it is a fairly long run from the shrine if you are trying to recover. If you happen to be there will a full group, at the top of the tower, is a true boss named Baines that is way too hard to be duo’d. If you had four of five people you likely could take him down on the same respawn timer as Cael. Cael however is easily solo’d and if you sneak up the tower you can loot both of the chests behind Baines without aggroing him pending you sneak and watch your approach angles.

I personally find this to be a much easier camp than Taedas, even though the actual level of the mobs inside of it is much higher. There is also more to do if you are willing to do it, in that each doorway to Seniab has a dryad in it, with two warrior-types and two prowler-types. You can get in a rhythm where you kill Cael and the one warrior-type that spawns with it, then go around the room killing the door guardians, and by the time you finish with all of that… Cael is likely to be spawning again soon. Additionally, there are I think four chests in the vicinity without climbing the tower, and even more, if you do choose to climb the tower up to where Baines is. So if you are at the farm for very long it is well worth taking a trip up the tower every hour to get the chests. Let’s dive into the drops:

As I said before this is a really easy camp if you are needing any of the weapons that are dropped and probably the only bow that is very easily solo’d. I’ve been out here several times with friends and the Life Staff seemed the most common, followed by the Void Gauntlet, and lastly, I have only seen a single bow drop. Again with the loot weirdness that happens in New World, it is entirely possible that you will have wildly different luck with what seems to be commonplace for you. Again all of these weapons can be taken up to 625 with Umbral Shards pending you cap out your expertise at 600 for that weapon type. I did not see this boss drop any Obsidium Gypsum, so I am not entirely certain what flags a mob for dropping that. If you need some the easiest way I have found is the Putris camp.

One more of these to go and I will be posting it tomorrow regardless of it being Thanksgiving. I will be EXTREMELY thankful to have this series behind me. Reekwater Skyview Repose Farm

Good Morning Friends! I hope you had a most excellent weekend. I had so many of these farm posts sitting there banked that I almost broke my cardinal rule of no posting on Saturday to churn through them a bit quicker. This morning I am going to talk about an interesting farm down in Reekwater involving an ancient spear wielder called The Surgeon. This game is pretty popular because it is one of the sources of the legendary Ancient Mandible trophy material. As a result, there is likely to be a regular cycle of familiar faces who are out there regularly farming this. For me, it has significance because it drops a really nice piece of jewelry for Strength-based characters. It also drops a handful of other significant items, making it well worth most players’ time.

This camp is located Northwest of the town of Reekwater, and you might notice the path I am suggesting looks a little wonky. The camp is located on the top of a mountain and the natural route winds its way through a few dozen packs of ancients before finally ending up on the artificial plateau where The Surgeon is located. However, if you are good at climbing mechanics in this game, you can instead make your way up the rock face latching onto rocks as you jump up and climb your way to the top without encountering anything. On the plateau itself, you will encounter an archer-type skeleton, a summoner-type skeleton, and then The Surgeon boss. This sequence has really irregular spawn patterns because while it follows the 5-minute spawn rate usually, it does occasionally do this thing where things instantly respawn. If you get in trouble you can hop through the circular window shown in the first screenshot and there is a ledge back there that you can drop down to and reset aggro. This ledge also serves as a safe spot to go AFK, but I would suggest dropping to a prone stance to keep from potentially being seen.

So why do we care about this camp in particular? As I said above this is the only Strength Based Earring that I was able to find that dropped at 590 and was easy to farm solo. It is also a good source of a pure Dexterity-based Greatsword and a pretty reasonable Constitution-based tanking shield. I would have rather than shield have been a Tower-type but beggars can’t be choosers. If I had one regret about this camp it is that the Spear that is named after this particular boss… only drops at item level 500 instead of 590. If you need Obsidian Gypsum it is also a pretty good source for you to get your daily drops while you are farming other items.

The bonus of this camp is that if you happen to get the Ancient Mandible to drop while you are farming other things, then you probably just made an instant windfall of coins. Truth be told you could probably flip it instantly to one of the players who are also standing there trying to farm it, albeit at probably a diminished return. I came out here mostly for the earring because I was trying to get a full set of 590 jewelry, but the shield is pretty solid as well and hard to replace. Edengrove Tadeas Stronghold Farm

Good Morning Friends! Today we continue this mission to document gear farms in New World with one located near Valor Hold in Edengrove. Again this entire mission is to present some options for new to 60 players to go out and farm up some of the 590 named items that won’t degrade in level when you use them. This camp in particular is a little bit on the tougher side because it involves three spawns that are a challenge to split up. The one that drops what we need is Taedas an Angry Earth shaman-type creature, but spawning with it is a prowler melee type and an archer ranged type Angry Earth. Essentially breaking this spawn will always be a bit of a challenge, but in theory, if you can drag out your initial kill so that you leave yourself some breathing room between kills, it will make subsequent loops easier on you as they won’t ALL be spawning in at the same time. All three encounters should spawn in at level 57, which is doable for a reasonably geared level 60 solo.

This one is pretty close to the Valor Hold stronghold in Edengrove, which is the southernmost of the two outposts. You can get there by exiting the west side of town and hugging the eastern bank of the lake until you reach a set of ruins called Taedas Stronghold. The first part of your journey will have a lot of very aggro boars, but then will quickly transition into peaceful ones and the occasional random Angry Earth mob. If you hug the mountainside of the shoreline you can avoid most of these. Sadly there isn’t really anything interesting resource-wise to be gathered along the way other than boar hides. As you get closer to the ruins there will be an increased density of Angry Earth and breaking into the camp will involve clearing two sets of prowler/archer spawns. One interesting thing of note, there is an empty room that you can crawl into on the south side of the ruins if you need to take a break while farming.

It was really at this farm that I began to understand the extent of my madness. In order to verify these drops I wanted to make sure that I was able to get all of them. As I said in my last post, the New World Databases have been notoriously wrong about drops and still have things listed that have not dropped in a number of patches. This means that in many cases I have to spend an extreme amount of time doing the same kill over and over. I think on this camp it took me about four hours to see all of the drops in the rotation but during that time I got 4 of the Life Staff, 1 Void Gauntlet, and 1 Hammer which was the last thing I managed to pick up before dipping. Let’s take a look at the notable drops:

As I said above I spent about four hours at this camp and during that time I saw six drops off the 590 loot table. Four of those were the staff, and I got a single hammer and void gauntlet. This is not going to be a fast way to get gear unless you are exceedingly lucky, but it is predictable and can be farmed without a group. This again can be taken all of the ways to 625 with the use of Umbral Shards and the upgrade mechanic for gear level 590 or higher. Tadeas also has a chance of dropping legendary crafting materials, but during my four-hour stint, I did not see any drop. You will also get a lot of high-level potions and assorted crafting materials that drop from Angry Earth in general. It is a bit of a boring farm especially due to the low-lighting conditions within the temple itself, but if you need any of the items above it is worth your time.

Corrupted Azoth Tree

Good Morning Friends! It was a wild weekend between the Muskrat and Twitter and the fact that my Mastodon 4.0 instance that I love… is unsustainably popular. On Friday afternoon Stux the admin of Mstdn.social closed the doors when we crossed the 100,000-user threshold. He had been advised by his host that they could not reasonably scale up that instance any further. Unfortunately he did not also close down the ability for users to send out invites to their friends… and as I have talked about before when it comes to MMORPG servers… it is extremely important to be in the same place as your friends. The end result is that another 11,000 invites went out before finally shutting down that loophole.

So unfortunately things are sluggish as hell and the timeline on the server has been running roughly an hour behind real-time as an army of worker processes churn furiously through messages. Stux also manages Mastodon.Coffee which is his attempt at creating an English language only server, and due to the overloading of Mstdn spawned a brand new server called Masto.Ai. I’ve been sitting here this morning trying to decide if I do the right thing for the community to lessen the load and migrate over… or if I just deal with it until enough people get frustrated to drop the total number of active messages. I had hoped the next time I migrated would be to something I was running for myself. I recently picked up Aggro.Chat for such a potential project but don’t have any of the pieces in place yet. It feels like running your own instance is the Fediverse equivalent of Homeownership.

Apart from social media nonsense, I’ve been spending as much of my time as possible doing super chill things in New World. Saturday morning was a delightful time as I chilled out talking on the Fediverse while running my favorite Iron routes. I am not entirely certain why I go off on tangents but suddenly I decided to catch my Engineering up to Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing. Essentially for leveling purposes, I am opting to only use a single high-tier material at a time. Most patterns have a required item… so for example, if you are making a Starmetal sword, you MUST include Starmetal into that pattern, but the other types of materials are variable and you can even use the lowest tier available. This means since I am leveling up Engineering on Wyrdwood at the moment, I am going to use nothing but the lowest-tier leather, cloth, and metal. That also means that I still need to run those lower-tier routes that I find so relaxing.

At this point, both Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing are over 150, which means I can make high-end Orichalcum items but lack the skill to really reliably hit anything of significant item level. Engineering is rapidly catching up and one more push should take me up to 150. Logging is so tedious, but right now my jam tends to be throwing on a YouTube video and grinding away peacefully. I’m using a few specific banks as swap space for current projects, and everything else… is crammed wherever I have room. At some point, I need to set up a system as I have over on Valhalla where specific banks are for specific items. Maybe I should log in there and scribble down a list of what went where so I can copy the methodology to Themiscyra. I’ve legitimately not logged into Valhalla at all since the re-roll, nor have I really had the desire to do so.

I’ve also been out exploring a lot and with that have come some interesting drops. Firstly it appears that every single named mob still has a chance of dropping pretty much any legendary crafting item. So far I’ve gotten pieces for a bow, blunderbuss, and void gauntlet, and unfortunately none of the items that I really care about deeply. Thankfully for Sword, Greatsword, and Shield I picked up the Item Level 600 patterns from the Halloween event. One thing that I really enjoy is how noticeable it is now when you get a named item drop. They all have a bright outline on the item as shown above and have a glowing effect. Essentially when you see an item like this, they will always drop with the same stats and can in theory be farmed from that specific boss.

There are a bunch of really weird places in the world. We all know there is the giant Azoth tree in Brightwood that is guarded by the Angry Earth folks. There is a grove full of not-quite Azoth trees down in Edengrove, which are also guarded by Angry Earth. However in Mourningdale, there is this weird glowing tree that has been corrupted with a bunch of miners working around it, and I am wondering if it also used to be one of the giant Azoth trees like from Brightwood. It makes me wonder what that area of Mourningdale might have looked like before it was corrupted. Would it have also been something more akin to Edengrove?

Speaking of Edengrove, there are a few places where it is just breathtaking to view the various monuments that dot the valley. I’ve not gotten as into the lore of New World as I have other games, but my working theory is that Edengrove and more particularly the Garden of Genesis is the heart of what remains of the original civilization that claimed Aeternum it’s home. The Angry Earth is all that remains and now guards once-sacred areas against the intruders that have come to the shores over generations. New World has clear indications of areas that were settled by different civilizations, but Edengrove has always seemed like it is much older and features a glimpse at maybe what the entire island looked like once before the attempts at colonization.

I’m continuing to largely play in cycles of either going out into the world and gathering resources or sitting down and grinding through crafting levels. This seems to be a really good pattern for me, but soon now that Ace and Vern have hit level 60… it will be time to go out exploring some of the more dangerous areas. I’ve quested through most of Ebonscale Reach and am working on clearing out Edengrove… which would lead me to start on Reekwater next. The money fountain has dried up a bit, only because the quests themselves take much longer to complete and there are far fewer of them. I still have that strong desire however to make the yellow quest markers disappear from my world map.
