It is official, as of reading this post Shadowbringers is now available for those who pre-ordered and got the head start. I’ve been in briefly this morning to snag a few screenshots for this post, and to create Rawrlbert the Wrothgar retainer and Lopera the Vierra retainer. That is pretty much as close to a race change as I am going to get given I am fairly committed to the lala-life. The queue was relatively short this morning, but I fully expect that by the time I get off work I will need to find an alternate activity to entertain myself while I wait for the queue to tick down.
In honor of this auspicious occasional I am running a contest of a sort. I have the digital code for a 60 day time card, and rather than using it myself I am going to be giving it away to my readers. One of the things that I hate are the giveaways that require you to sign up for thirty social media accounts to enter. Instead we are going to keep this nice and simple and your entry is making a comment on this post. In a minimum of two sentences give me a run down on what you are looking forward to with Shadowbringers or if you have been away from the game… what you are looking forward to returning to and doing the most.
It is important that you leave a valid email, because I will be choosing a winner from only the folks who gave me a way of contacting them after the contest. I will only be accepting comments that are legitimately answering the prompt, and if instead it is just a bunch of nonsense then I will drop those from the running. Once I have culled the list to only valid entries I will be using some sort of randomizer to pick the winner. The contest will run from the time of posting on June 28th through the close of day on July 2nd aka the official launch date for Shadowbringers. Here comes the TLDR summary block for the rules.

I have been impatiently waiting for Hrothgar. I started out as a Miqo’te. It felt right for a nimble quick class. As I played more I wanted to go beefier to try new things out. With Hrothgar and Gunbreaker it felt right to return to my cat roots and still feel like a beefier no nonsense hero.
I started playing 6 months ago and it’s easily replaced Destiny as the game I want to continue playing all the time. I started as a Paladin tank, but loved trying lots of different jobs and really enjoyed Ninja as my DPS, but tanking is my favorite thing to do. I’m excited to play Paladin, but because of my love of Ninja’s pace I’m really eager to play Gunbreaker, which I will probably main from this point on if it feels as good as it looks. Otherwise, I will return to my Paladin bro ways!
Oh lord. So snarkily I am looking forward to not having to worry about other games (except fortnite) for quite a while again. Seriously, though, I think the real reason this expansion called me back was the obvious reason… the gunblades. I was always a sucker for 8 and it’s still the nostalgia favorite in my head. I am also looking forward to hopefully being able to move my gaming to the living room with Sarah since FFXIV plays best with a controller (stop your hissing).
If I could just figure how to target better I’d even use controller when playing on PC.

Please don’t consider me for the contest because thanks to wanting Fat Black Chocobos on 2 characters I’m pre-paid through November and that’s close to the max time they let you buy in advance anyway.
That said, talk about FFXIV? Heck yeah I will!
My biggest problem with FFXIV is there is TOO MUCH I want to do, which is a nice change for me for an MMO. Do I push on through the Story Quests? Do I start gathering/crafting? Do I go do some gambling at the Golden Saucer? Do I take the leap and start a healer or tank? I want to do ALL those things.
For Shadowbringers itself, I’m no where near that content so I’m curious to see how my Dragoon feels with the job changes. And just maybe I’m looking forward to seeing a ton of cute Viera running around! 😉
I am looking forward to people enjoying content with each other again. I haven’t been playing a year yet, but the best part of this game is gathering up groups and having fun!
Since watching the full trailer of Shadowbringers I’ve been erratic in what to expect. Looking at all the new additions and changes to various systems — especially jobs that I enjoy playing. The recent Machinist changes and additions have felt fantastic. What I am looking forward to is the lore of not only the new zones but the MSQ as well. The line, “Become what you must” rattled me, in a good way. I definitely look forward to what’s to come!
